Knectar.com redesign process: Part 1 - Design and content development approach

by Chris Amato

From the concept stage that pre-dated the current version, our team had had the idea of building a content-rich, highly usable, visually engaging, content-engaging site. At the heart of this concept lay a much richer information architecture. The core idea was to build a non-hierarchical internal and external structural linking model driven by cross-referenced tagging. The spirit of this approach was to EXPOSE through a steadfast adherence to transparency of information. Whereas the typical brochure site often condemns itself to the linear, cliched mode: 3-6 page home / about / portfolio / etc, we had an ambition to not only cover these essential well, but also to build a much deeper structural model. This would be a platform for ongoing content and useful! information development. It would expose, ideally in a fruitful, useful, profitable, collaborative way, all of the interesting elements of our business, from process, to craft and technique, partnerships (celebrating! our competitition), to our victorious stories of production.
