Knectar.com redesign process: Intro - Motivation for rebuild

The decision to upgrade the most recent version of the http://knectar.com/ website was multi-faceted. The original concept was compromised due to a pressure to get a revised site up and running for sales and marketing purposes. Specifically, content development had never been completed, and the information architecture had been dumbed down for the sake of the real, practical need to have a decent, albeit limited brochure site available for marketing purposes.

The content is dramatically thin across the board. The project page is AJAX driven, which while attractive on a UI level, left much to be desired in terms of content exposure, individual project accessibility (there’s no way to point to a project), and it’s broken in Safari and Chrome. Related to above, the SEO model is extremely weak, sabatoging any reasonable hope of natural search traffic. The copy / content voice is unrefined. While all of these limitations have been known, it’s taken a slow-down in production to find the time to address these issues.
